She.Loves.STEM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2017 with a mission to empower girls worldwide by closing the gender gap in STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

We believe that every girl deserves access to the education, resources, and opportunities needed to thrive in STEM fields. Yet, girls especially those from underserved and underrepresented communities continue to face systemic barriers that limit their participation and advancement. She.Loves.STEM exists to change that.

Through innovative programs, meaningful mentorship, and community-centered initiatives, we work to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and cultivate pathways for girls to explore and succeed in STEM. Our approach goes beyond awareness; we are committed to action providing hands-on learning experiences, exposure to role models, and tools that equip girls for long-term success.

Following the success of last year’s sold-out event, the Maryland STEM Festival is once again hosting a Girl Scout Cybersecurity Badge Event this time in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Participants will:
 • Learn the fundamentals of cybersecurity and digital safety from women in STEM professionals • Explore how professionals protect information and systems • Strengthen problem-solving and critical thinking skills • Earn their Cybersecurity Badge

🩷 First Hispanic Woman in Space – In 1993, Dr. Ellen Ochoa made history as the first Hispanic woman to travel to space aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-56).

💜 Dr. Ochoa became the 11th Director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center, the first Hispanic and second woman ever to hold that position.

💚 Dr. Ochoa completed four spaceflights, spending nearly 1,000 hours in orbit studying the Earth’s atmosphere and solar activity.

💛 Dr. Ochoa is a passionate supporter of STEM education, she encourages young people, especially girls and minorities to explore science, technology, engineering, and math.

🩷 Dr. Ochoa authored a series of bilingual (English/Spanish) children’s book, one for each of the letters in STEAM.

Did you know? The number 9 has some pretty magical math properties!

➡️ Multiply 9 by any number, then add the digits of the answer together… and you’ll always get 9!

Example: 9 × 3 = 27 → 2 + 7 = 9 9 × 7 = 63 → 6 + 3 = 9

🎯 This cool trick works because of how our number system (base 10) is structured—mathematicians call it a digital root.

🧠 Bonus Brain Buster: 9 is also the highest single-digit number and is used in modulo 9 arithmetic, a handy tool for error checking in codes and math tricks!

We had a blast introducing middle school girls to the magic of coding through creativity at our Beads, Bling & Bytes Workshop hosted at Morgan State University! From learning the basics of binary, stringing beads to cracking binary code, these future tech leaders learned how to encode their initials using 1s and 0s and turned code into wearable art! 📿
