Dayna L. Kent
Community Outreach Director
Dayna Kent is an educator, nonprofit leader, and advocate with more than 20 years of experience advancing educational equity, student success, and community engagement. A proud third-generation HBCU graduate, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and English from Edward Waters University, where she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She remains an active member through the Federal City Alumnae Chapter and is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Higher Education at American College of Education.
Dayna serves as Vice President of the DC Metropolitan HBCU Alumni Alliance and has held leadership roles with the UNCF National Alumni Council and other organizations dedicated to expanding educational opportunities and strengthening HBCU engagement. As a member of the SHELOVESSTEM Board of Directors, she is committed to empowering the next generation of diverse STEM leaders through mentorship, advocacy, and meaningful community partnerships.
Mudiwa N. Betts
Treasurer
Mudiwa is an experienced educator and leader passionate about empowering others through learning and financial literacy. She has a strong background in teaching, mentoring, and curriculum development, supporting student growth and achievement.
A graduate of Morgan State University and Trinity University, she is currently a PhD candidate at Loyola University. In addition to her educational work, Mudiwa brings expertise in financial planning and budget management, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources.
As Treasurer, she leverages her combined experience to support the organization’s mission with a focus on sustainability, accountability, and long-term impact.
Tekeya Peterson
Communications Director
Tekeya L. Peterson is an accomplished higher education professional and student development leader with more than eight years of experience creating transformative leadership and engagement opportunities for college students. A proud graduate of two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), she is passionate about advancing student success and promoting the lasting impact of HBCU education.
Recognized for her leadership and service, Tekeya is a former HBCU Queen, an inaugural member of the Paine College 40 Under 40 Association, and a recipient of the 2024 Baltimore Collegetown Staff Award and the Baltimore County Executive Citation. She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education at Jackson State University. Tekeya is committed to inspiring future leaders to maximize their potential and create meaningful change in their communities.
Keyanna L. McKenzie
Events/Volunteer Coordinator
Keyanna brings passion, organization, and creativity to every initiative. In her role, she oversees volunteer engagement, ensuring that each person feels valued and empowered to contribute to the mission of inspiring the next generation of young women in STEM. Keyanna also manages event planning and coordination, helping to design impactful experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and open doors for students from all backgrounds. Dedicated to service and community, she embodies the spirit of mentorship and collaboration that drives SHELOVESSTEM forward.
Erinn Gales
Secretary
Erinn Gales is an HR professional with a specialization in recruitment and outreach in the federal government. She is a Maryland native who attended University of Maryland, College Park where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Family Science. Erinn also holds a Master's in Business Leadership and Management. Although her career is outside the technical field, she is a strong advocate for early STEM engagement, believing it is key to increasing access, opportunity, and diversity in STEM professions. Erinn has always been passionate about helping underserved youth reach their full potential and is excited to continue that work with SHELOVESSTEM.
