STEM Summer Programs in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia Area for K-8 Students

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Seek ( Summer Engineering Experience for Kids) Program -The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) created SEEK to address the underrepresentation of African Americans students in STEM fields, to ensure the Black middle class and to help America remain competitive. The SEEK Program utilizes a hands-on design curriculum supplied by various Educational Curriculum companies and Cooperate Sponsors. Campers will work in teams, using their knowledge to solve problems and create products while discovering the underlying math and science principles involved in these processes. Each week, the campers will take on a new project, culminating with a presentation, design competition and physical competitions that all parents are encouraged to attend. SEEK 2024 application is now OPEN, deadline June 24, 2024!

Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP), The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) places high school students in Department of Navy (DoN) laboratories where they take part in real Naval research for eight weeks during the summer. SEAP gives academically talented sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in STEM the opportunity to learn about Naval research and technology while receiving first-class mentoring by top scientists and engineers. SEAP is a competitive program with around 300 placements in more than 30 laboratories around the country in which many participants go on to careers within the DoN. Interns are selected based upon academic achievement, personal statements, recommendations, and career and research interests. To be eligible, you need to be at least a sophomore and 16 years old at the time of application. You can apply online here starting August 1, 2023 for 2024.
